The sixth Newport Harbor Underwater Cleanup happens Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Marina Park. Divers in the water at 7am, volunteers on the docks, and a harbor’s worth of trash hauled out before the day is over.
Sponsors are what make that morning work: the boats, the dumpsters, the dive support, and the food and gear that keep a few hundred volunteers moving.

Donations to the cleanup are received by Task Force Pacific, the 501(c)(3) under which the cleanup operates.
Everything below was given across fourteen years: money, boats, batteries, kayaks, venues, credibility. Grouped the way it happened.
The Voyage: 2012
The expedition that started it all: 353 nautical miles down the coast in an electric boat, October 2012.
SunPower. The first sponsor of all: solar panels on the expedition boat.
Duffy Electric Boat Company / Marshall Duffield. The boat itself, a 48-battery special.
Trojan Battery. The extra batteries that made the range possible.
Sup Co. Paddle boards and apparel for the expedition (since closed).
Heal the Bay. An early supporter, with its logo on the boat.
Help Your Harbor: the monthly cleanups
For eight years, Help Your Harbor cleaned the harbor on the first Saturday of every month. Two local outfits made every one of those Saturdays possible and have never been publicly credited, until now.
Southwind Kayaks. Free kayaks, every month, for eight years.
Newport Aquatic Center. Free kayaks, and a place to land the trash.
Duffy Electric Boat Company. Backing from the first cleanup on.
The Underwater Cleanups: 2017 to today
The annual underwater cleanup has run since 2017: three sold-out years at the Balboa Bay Club, a pandemic pause, and a return at the city’s request.

The Waterwheel
The Newport Bay Trash Interceptor, the first trash-collecting water wheel on the US West Coast, began as this group’s proposal, and the support that carried it is the biggest thank-you on this page.
Patagonia. The early grant, written to the City of Newport Beach, that gave a volunteer group’s big idea corporate credibility.
Surfrider Foundation. Partnership, a committee seat, and grant writers.
Funded and built by public partners: a $1.68 million grant from California’s Ocean Protection Council under Proposition 1, with the City of Newport Beach, the State of California, and the Orange County Transportation Authority. Unveiled in March 2025, and running.
